\n This is just a great original piece. I was lucky enough to acquire 4 original works by ernest linzell. I bought the paintings based on the quality of work without knowing much about the artist. After doing some research I found a biography that I have included below. Doing even more research I have been able to find some original posters (world war 1 and others), as well as postcards that the artist illustrated. Based on what I have seen and the quality of these paintings, I am guessing that these were done for original posters and post cards. They are all wonderful victorian courting scenes and almost certainly reproduced for a poster, calendar, and or postcard. This is a wonderful watercolor and gouache of a man and his dog joining a woman and her dog on the garden veranda- just a great original view. Signed lower right corner. Painting is in stunning condition with no signs of fading. The flowers are painted in watercolor and gouache is still the wonderful color as it was painted. Painting measures 8 1\/4 x 12 1\/2. Original matte and gold painted frame are complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 15 1\/4 x 19 1\/2 inches.<\/p>\n

For those not familiar with the artist his biography from a dealer who has sold the artist’s work reads: “Ernest Linzell, was Swiss-English illustrator whose many compositions graced art posters, news and variety publications from before the First World War until the late 1920s. His work is often done in monochromatic style or sepia duotones but he was not afraid of bold striking color in posterworks. Linzell worked professionally in the field of banknotes, bond and stamp illustration. ”
