\n A pair engravings by Thomas Allom (1804-1872), comprising two hand-colored engravings “Chapel in the Great Temple, Macao” (1845) and “The Pria Grande, Macao” (1845)<\/p>\n

Thomas Allom, artist, architect and draughtsman studied at the Royal Academy School, London. He was a founder member of the royal Institute of British Architects. He is chiefly known for the numerous topographical works, which were used to illustrited books on travel. Allom drafted a wide variety of views of China, from the well known sites and monuments, to scenes of silk cultivation, religious ceremonies and battles at sea.<\/p>\n

The studies were finely engraved on steel plates and published by Fisher & Son in 1843, entitled China in a Series of Views, Displaying the Scenery, Architect and Social Habits of that Ancient Empire for both the English and French markets.<\/p>\n
