Afra and Tobia Scarpa were two Italian designers known for their work in the field of architecture and industrial design. Afra Bianchin Scarpa (1937–2011) and Tobia Scarpa (born 1935) worked together as a couple both in life and professionally, forming one of the most prolific and influential duos in the Italian design scene of the 20th century.
Afra and Tobia Scarpa both graduated in architecture from the Iuav University of Venice, where they studied with important architects such as Carlo Scarpa (Tobia’s brother) and Giuseppe Samonà. After their studies, they began working together at the studio of the Italian architect and designer Carlo Scarpa, where they had the opportunity to develop their unique and sophisticated style.
Their collaboration has resulted in the creation of numerous iconic projects in furniture and interior design, often characterized by timeless elegance and meticulous attention to detail. Their works have been produced by world-famous brands such as B&B Italia, Cassina and Flos.
