A fine set of 4 mid-19th-century quality English oak and elm Windsor armchairs. These armchairs feature low stick and hoop backs with pierced splats and stick back spindles. The back rail is secured to a stunning solid saddle-shaped elm seat with shaped arms on shaped supports. The armchairs are raised on turned legs, connected by a curved crinoline form stretcher. This set of country armchairs showcases stunning grain configurations and a warm color, all in good original condition. England, circa 1840. The chair seat height is 45 cm. Surprisingly comfortable, each chair is handcrafted and thus there are subtle variations in dimensions.
