This is a heavy cast brass antique nickel plated Landers, Frary, Clark “Universal” bathtub mount soap dish that is in very good condition. This shell-shaped soap dish has drainage holes in the soap dish and the arms were at one time soldered into position but one arm has come loose from the solder but is still firmly affixed to the soap dish itself. The nickel plating is in good condition overall for this circa 1910 bathroom accessory but there are spots that are brassing. It will complement your bathroom renovation project perfectly.
S. Sternau & Co. of Brooklyn, New York, was a maker of chafing dishes, coffee percolators and other household items such as these bathroom accessories since 1893. It had previously applied the name to its “Sterno-Inferno” alcohol burner. In 1918, it promoted its Sterno Stove as being a perfect gift for a soldier going overseas. The company invented the Sterno product around 1900.
