Original frederick kubitz ‘camden harbor’ watercolor painting this is just a great original piece. I was lucky enough to just acquire an incredible pair of frederick ‘fritz’ kubitz paintings. I have had one other in the past and actually gave it to someone as a wedding present. These paintings are really stunning and I was thrilled to acquire them. I think the new owner will be very excited to purchase these works. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is one of the finest works I have seen by the artist. A stunning view of camden harbor in maine. Watercolor and gouache on paper measuring 10 1/2 x 14 1/2 inches. Signed lower left corner. Painting is stunning and in as painted condition. Really a gorgeous vibrant painting. The painting has been matted in gold and framed in silver that really compliment the painting. Painting has the original dowling walsh gallery rockland, me label on the back. Just a wonderful presentation. Frame shows a few small scratches but really just ready to hang. About as good as you are going to find without spending thousands purchasing it in a gallery. Frame measures 20 x 24 inches.
For those not familiar with the artist his biography from askart reads: “Frederick “Fritz” Kubitz, who works in both oil and watercolor, is an artist who paints in a bold, vigorous personal style. He displays in his paintings an imaginative use of natural lighting that translates into a luminous* quality. By the use of fresh colors, glazes and precise brush strokes, he shows his virtuosity and mastery of his chosen mediums. He invites the viewer to look into his world and observe impressions of traditional New England subjects. Trained as an architect, he has a keen eye for detail and knowledge of structure that is evident in his rendering of historic buildings. Kubitz was one of the designers of the TWA terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport, in New York. He is especially interested in painting scenes of Boston and its historic places. His compositions are dramatic and create an emotional mood; painting realistically to communicate visually what is on his mind. The themes of his paintings cover a wide range of topics featuring Maine Harbors, Cape Cod Dunes, Vermont Countryside, New Hampshire Ski Trails, Boston Cityscapes, and many other scenes from his travels around the U.S. and Europe.
Kubitz believes it is essential to the painting process to work on location; to extract the essence of a scene while present and later develop these studies into major paintings in his studio. He is the recipient of many prizes and awards attesting to the excellence of his work. His paintings have been included in the American Watercolor’s nationwide tour of museums and places of exhibition and his painting Center Harbor, New Hampshire was published on the cover of Yankee Magazine. His work appears in the collections of the Ford Motor Company, Western Electric, New England Mutual Ins. Co., Former Shawmut Bank, Fleet Bank, Verizon, Maryland Bank of No. America, Fidelity Corp., Liberty Mutual Group-Boston, Marriott Hotels, Harvey Industries, The Cabot Corp., Sullivan & Worcester Attys., Town of Wellesley, MA, Quincy Mutual Fire Insurance Co. Frederick Kubitz is a member of the Guild of Boston Artists*, the American Watercolor Society*, American Society of Marine Artists*, the New England Watercolor Society, the Rockport Art Association, and the Wellesley Society of Artists. He was commissioned to do the cover of Yankee Magazine in 1982. His work is featured in numerous books including Best of Watercolor (1995), Best of Watercolor, Paintings (1997), Best of Watercolor, Painting Light and Shadow (1997), and Watercolor Expressions (1999). His most recent awards were the “W.J Hibbard Award” (1999) and the “Robert Calrow Award” (2000) from the Rockport Art Association, the “Ogden Pleissner Award” (1996) from the American Watercolor Society International Exhibition, and the “Gold” (1994) and “Silver” (1996) awards from the New England Watercolor Society Annual Exhibition.”
